18th Annual Barnegat Bay Festival-June 7, 2015

This year's festival theme is "Citizens and Science: Partners in Protection".

From water-based activities like the canoe eco-tour to hands-on children’s activities like the aquatic touch tank and seining, attendees will have many opportunities to explore science in action while learning about the valuable natural resources of the estuary.

Focusing on ways citizens can get involved in science and stewardship, the participating environmental organizations will showcase the importance of partnerships and volunteerism in protecting our natural resources. We celebrate our continued commitment to educating as many as we can to the wonders of our precious natural resource, the Barnegat Bay,

Join us at the Wanamaker Complex in Island Heights on Sunday June 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Rain or Shine).

Learn all you can about protecting and preserving the Bay.  As in past years there will be more than 60 environmental organizations represented.  Among the features:  the Watershed Ambassador will be featuring our interactive storm flood model,  the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will update its successful Blitz throughout the watershed, our Native Plant sale (with Rare Find Nursery) will spotlight storm-sturdy yards, and many organization exhibits will focus on climate-ready endeavors and sustainability. There will also be an emphasis on continued support of the Jersey Shore with many of the wonderful ways you can enjoy the recreational aspects of the bay: kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, fishing, crabbing, clamming, camping, birding, kite-flying...and so much more

Other fun and free activities at the Barnegat Bay Festival:

  • Enjoy a canoe eco-tour (pre-registration required) or a pontoon boat ride on the Toms River. Take a kayak ride or learn to paddleboard (special festival pricing) with Freekin' Creekin' at the Summit Avenue beach.
  • Relax to The ShoreSyde Duo with the sounds of summer or the traditional music of the Greater Pinelands Dulcimer Society, the Acoustic Musicians Guild, the Top Hats, or a special children’s performance by YOSI and Johnny.
  • Touch sea life in Jenkinson's Aquarium touch tank, learn about raptors and reptiles with the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, make paper with seeds, try your hand at fish printing, or walk through the soil tunnel for an “underground” experience.
  • Visit the more than 40 eco-friendly vendors and enjoy all varieties of great festival food.

There is so much to do and learn...and it's FREE.

So if you are staying closer to home this summer…save gas and save money, but most importantly learn how you can protect our most treasured natural resource, be more prepared for the future, and support the communities of the Barnegat Bay and its watershed.
